It’s been too long since I’ve read a Nicholas Sparks book! I instantly felt like I was back in my happy place when I picked up Dear John and began reading. I couldn’t put the book down!
Dear John follows the life of John Tyree, a soldier in the US army. After coming home on leave for a couple of weeks, John never imagined he would meet the girl of his dreams. But will their romance last the distance once he has to go back to work? In the beginning, they believed it would but then a letter came to John that changed everything!
Nicholas Sparks comes up with some of the best plot ideas known to man. What’s better is that these ideas go from best-selling books to blockbuster movies. Dear John was another amazing book by Nicholas Sparks, though it could be a bit cliché at times.
I connected easily to John’s character and loved the way his relationship with his dad grew throughout the story. Savanna, on the other hand, really annoyed me at times though she was more likable in the book than the movie. Not giving anything away but in the movie, she made a choice that came across like she had to do it, whereas in the book she made that decision based on her true feelings.
Be prepared to have a lot of emotions when reading this book! That said, by the end of the story I hope you’ll be left as content as I was. It’s not a typical Nicholas Sparks ending which is why I think I loved it so much.
