Black
For years my friend Ryan has been telling me about The Circle series, written by Ted Dekker. Each time we’ve talked about it, I was either reading something else or haven’t been interested in the series. However, on the flight over to the States, I got a real craving to read the series. Within the first week of my time in PA, I had started reading Black, the first book in The Circle series.
Black is an action packed book that centers on the peculiar life of Thomas Hunter, a man who lives in two different worlds. The story immediately begins with Thomas being chased by men who are shooting at him, though he has no idea why. Then, next thing you know, everything goes black and Thomas wakes up in a completely different world where everything is dark and creatures with red eyes are staring at him from their perch in the trees.
Thomas is just as confused as the reader is, about the reason behind these unusual occurrences. There has to be a reason he’s dreaming about a different world, though he has no idea which is the real one, and he's determined to figure it out. Both the reader and Thomas are in this fight for your life adventure together, in order to find out the truth behind these dreams.
For my first Ted Dekker book, I was really impressed. There were some parts that were slower than others but once I got to the end of this book, I knew I would have to read the rest of the series to understand what is going on. Black is different from the other books I’ve read because I really can’t predict what is going to happen since, for the first time ever, I’m just as clueless as the main character. The only person who knows the answers is Ted Dekker, and he has done an exceptional job at hiding the truth.
If you haven’t read Black and are looking for a thrilling, puzzling, Christian, thought-provoking book, then this is the one for you. I can assure you that you’ll be on the tips of your toes the entire journey.

Red
It’s been a long time coming, but I have finally completed the second book in Ted DeKker’s, The Circle, series! Life has been so hectic the last couple of months. I honestly could’ve finished this book in a couple of days, but, as you can tell, that didn’t happen. Three months later (Yeesh), I can finally move on to the next book in this awesome series!
Red was an incredible addition to The Circle series! There was never a moment where the tension wasn’t high. One of Thomas' worlds was running against the clock to find an antivirus for the Raison Strain, while his other dream world was desperately searching for a way to stop the invasion of the massive Horde army! Poor Thomas was forced to juggle two life-threatening events, back-to-back.
Thankfully for us, we could take a break from reading this book; but poor Thomas seemed to have no chance to rest because every time he slept, he would wake up in another reality! There were so many decisions that needed to be made, alliances to be considered, and betrayals happening before Thomas had time to blink!
The second book in The Circle series was definitely not a letdown! As I read the last couple of pages, I fell even more in love with Ted DeKker’s writing and his incorporation of Christianity. Thanks to his epic ending there’s only one thing left for me to do… start book three!! Happy Reading!

White
Living in a book can be exciting, but it can also be quite stressful. As I read White, I experienced a bit of both. This book was another great addition to The Circle series and definitely kept me on my toes until the end!
White is a continuation of Red. You really do hit the ground running when you start this book because the countdown to the Raison Strain’s deadly effect is getting closer with every page. As you read this book you will definitely wonder how Thomas is going to get the anti-virus, at the same time as protecting The Circle from the Horde. Two very different situations, in two different worlds, happening at the same time.
I don’t want to give too much of this book away. If you’ve read Red and Black, you’ll be familiar with the storyline and the things that are going on in this series. There’s definitely no slow parts when it comes to This Circle series! It’s also awesome that Ted DeKker has included Biblical aspects to the story. From Justin to His bride, it’s great to see the symbolism in these books!
If you’re like me and have just finished White, I’m sure you’re wondering what happens next. Well, have no fear because we’ve been given one more book to finish off this series. Let my last indulgence of this series begin…

Green
Reading a book series is always an exciting adventure. It’s nice to have more than one book telling the same story. However, The Circle series is quite different to all the other book series out there. With this series, you could start these books in any order and it would still make sense. However, I would definitely recommend that you read it in the order I have (Black, Red, White, Green).
Green is the last book in The Circle series and it was my least favorite… I couldn't finish this book. Unlike the other books in The Circle series, I wasn't engrossed in the storyline. There was a lot of repetition about what happened in the other books and I couldn't connect with the characters like I could before. I also hated that Ted DeKker kept using the word 'whore'.
Another thing I didn’t like was the sensuality and gore in this book, which I found unnecessary. I practically had to skip an entire chapter because I was so uncomfortable with the sacrifice that was taking place. The way Janae and Billy would interact was also quite cringe-worthy.
All in all, I was really disappointed in this series finale because my friend had told me such great things about it. Honestly, I wish I would've stopped after reading White (even though I had lots of questions after the ending).
